Simmons Multimedia Announces Newspaper Launch
The Borderland Press will launch to take the place of the long-running Cavalier County Republican
LANGDON, N.D. (Dec. 2, 2021) – Langdon-based Simmons Multimedia announced its hope to launch a weekly paper in the near future with expanded coverage to nearby markets that they already serve with their Simmons Radio and Digital Products group.
This comes after the Cavalier County Republican, based in Langdon and serves as the official newspaper of the county, announced it would print its last issue on Dec. 6 and its out-of-state owners plan to close its doors.
“I’ve had many recent conversations about the newspaper that’s been a part of the fabric of our community for the past 133 years,” said Bob Simmons, president of Simmons Multimedia and owner of the new Borderland Press. “We believe the loss of this weekly newspaper would be detrimental to our great communities.”
Simmons and his wife, Diane, will run the newspaper, with help from local writers and designers. Simmons has been unable to acquire the Cavalier County Republican name or the newspaper’s subscriber list, so plans to start from scratch.
“We’ve had an outpouring of support as word has gotten out about our new adventure,” Simmons said. “There are many people who want to help our publication so the people of Cavalier County and the people of Walhalla, N.D. can once again enjoy newspaper coverage.”
